2026 Strings Retreat Information

The Strings Retreat is for amateur adult strings musicians 18 years of age and older. The Retreat will run daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Thorneloe University with a final concert to be performed on Sunday afternoon. Ensembles will be created based on the participants’ skill level. The music to be performed will be distributed approximately one month in advance of the retreat.

Meal Plan (5 lunches, optional):        $90

Start of the Retreat: August 12 at 9:00 am

End of the Retreat: August 16 mid-afternoon after the final concert

Parking is free of charge for all participants

Strings Retreat: For adult amateur strings players: a chamber music learning experience in Northern Ontario like no other!



2024 Strings Retreat Aug 14-18, was a blast! Thanks to the City of Sudbury Arts and Culture grant, to the organizers, our professional music coaches, our enthusiastic participants for a week of personal growth and wonderful chamber music. Thanks also to Thorneloe University for providing the venue to make all of this happen! See you in August!

A typical day at Strings Retreat (based on past years)

All participants will be part of 1 ensemble and their respective orchestra section (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello,  Double bass). Some participants perform in 2 ensembles, at their choice, and based on availability in the schedule.

MORNINGS

Physical warm up (stretches)

ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL

COACHING – A GROUPS (A & B groups alternate time slots so you have either an AM coaching or a PM Coaching.  You will likely have a different coach each day.)

AFTERNOONS

COACHING – B GROUPS (A & B groups alternate)

Free time to practice (on your own or with your ensemble) , or there may be a sectional rehearsal/ masterclass on some of the days.
